Please review committee positions below and consider joining one or two. Call for nominations for the Executive Committee comes out each year in the spring. Please consider nominating yourself or a qualified collegue when the time comes. In the meantime, please consider joining one of our many committees!
Golf Committee
Co-chairs: Dana Hernalsteen & Kaitlyn Ferria
This committee helps plan, fundraise, and recruit golfers for our annual golf outing, which is typically held in July each year. Proceeds from the golf outing typically raise $4,000 in scholarships for students in landscape architecture programs and Michigan State and University of Michigan.
Social Event Committee
Chair: Brad Hornburg
We are looking for volunteers across the state to help coordinate social events. We strive to organize as many events as possible throughout the year. Responsibilities include event planning, fundraising, and outreach. This committee meets biweekly via Zoom.
Fellow Committee
Chair: Clare Jagenow
The Fellows committee assists eligible landscape architects to apply to become elevated to the ASLA Council of Fellows. Committee members are expected to assist in considering which individuals are eligible to apply and help coordinate and guide the nomination submission.
Annual Meeting Committee
Chair: Kyle Verseman
We can't make our annual Conference on Landscape Architecture happen without the help of our dedicated volunteers! This committee meets via Zoom every other week starting in November. Responsibilities include event planning, determining qualified speakers, networking, marketing the event, and fundraising.
MiSITES Committee
Co-chairs: Meghan Diecchio and Devyn Quick
MiSITES is our quaterly hardcopy publication that keeps members up-to-date on relevant news, notable projects, and the latest products. Committee members help set the editorial calendar, coordinate with advertisers and writers, and assist with editing and layout.
Awards Committee
Co-Chairs: Stacy Tobar and Sarah Huddas
The awards committee coordinates all of the details for our annual awards program. This includes creating the call for submissions and awards criteria, organizing entries and coordinating with the jury chapter, and organizing our annual awards ceremony.
Social Media Committee
Chair: OPEN - Stacy Tobar (interim)
Our social media committee is very active getting the latest news and events to our followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Members meet monthly via Zoom to coordinate the schedule for posting. Members are responsible for creating content and graphics.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
Co-chairs: Stephanie Onwenu and Kyle Verseman
Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee meets monthly via Zoom. This committee focuses on initiatives aimed at recruitment, retention, mentorship, training, outreach and community discussion for our students, members, and communities. L.A. Ride Committee
Chairs: Ben Baker
Join all the excitement of planning for an participating in the LA Ride. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help plan the 2023 LA Ride.
Student Awards and Portfolio Review
Chair: Allison Marusic
This committee meets twice per year to review and award ASLA Student Award nominees at U-M and MSU. The committee also meets to review portfolios for students at each University. Reviews typically take place in January and February.
Legislative Committee
Chair: Adam Fercho
Passionate about advocacy? Join the legislative committee and help plan advocacy efforts such as our annual Lobby Day and site tours with elected officials. The committee meets every other month via Zoom.
Sketch Crawl Committee
Chair: Brad Hornburg
Help plan our annual Sketch Crawl - which is slated to take place in Bay City 2023. Committee members meet throughout the year to plan for the event, and more often closer to the big day.
