Scholarship Events Committee

MiASLA is proud to host various fundraising opportunities for UofM and MSU Student scholarships to achieve their careers in the field of LA. Last year we raised over $11,000 from the MiASLA Golf Outing. This committee meets once a month in the spring and then weekly, apporaching the event. Please consider joining this committee to plan a similar scholarship event. We are looking for connected or creative LAs, contractors or suppliers.
Communications Committee
Social Media Chair: Arianna Zannetti
Website Chair: Brad Hornburg (Interim)
Our communications committee is very active getting the latest news and events to our followers on our website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Social media Members meet monthly via Zoom to coordinate the schedule for posting. Members are responsible for creating content and graphics. Website members are on call for event, sponsorship pages as well as keeping information relevant, cohesive, and accessible.
Fellow Committee
Chair: Clare Jagenow
The Fellows committee assists eligible landscape architects to apply to become elevated to the ASLA Council of Fellows. Committee members are expected to assist in considering which individuals are eligible to apply and help coordinate and guide the nomination submission.
Annual Meeting Committee
Chair: Dana Hernalsteen
We can't make our annual Conference on Landscape Architecture happen without the help of our dedicated volunteers! This committee meets via Zoom every other week starting in November. Responsibilities include event planning, determining qualified speakers, networking, marketing the event, and fundraising.
MiSITES Committee
Chair: Deborah Dawe
MiSITES is our biannual digital publication that keeps members up-to-date on relevant news, notable projects, and the latest products. Hard copies of the publications are available upon request. Committee members help set the editorial calendar, follow contributor leads, coordinate with advertisers and writers, and assist with editing and layout.
Awards Committee
Chair: Arianna Zannetti & Stacey Tobar
The awards committee coordinates all of the details for our annual awards program. This includes creating the call for submissions and awards criteria, organizing entries and coordinating with the jury chapter, and organizing our annual awards ceremony.
Legislative Committee
Chair: Bob Doyle
Passionate about advocacy? Join the legislative committee and help plan advocacy efforts such as our annual Lobby Day and site tours with elected officials. The committee meets every other month via Zoom.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
Chair: Alexa Bush
Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee meets monthly via Zoom. This committee focuses on initiatives aimed at recruitment, retention, mentorship, training, outreach and community discussion for our students, members, and communities. Student Awards and Portfolio Review
Chair: Lisa DuRussel
This committee meets twice per year to review and award ASLA Student Award nominees at U-M and MSU. The committee also meets to review portfolios for students at each University. Reviews typically take place in the Spring
Sketch Crawl Committee

As part of the Annual conference, MiASLA provides an annual Sketch Crawl. Committee members meet throughout the year to plan for the event, and more often closer to the big day
L.A. Ride Committee
Chairs: Bob Ford
The LA Ride is a 5-6 hour bicycle tour showcasing outdoor assets related to landscape architecture, typically held alongside the Michigan Chapter Conference. It's an educational and fun experience with colleagues, friends, and volunteers. We need volunteers to guide the ride, assist with registration, help assemble the group, and make particpants feel welcome. Behind-the -scenes roles include promoting the ride, selecting the route, creating graphics, developing the theme, and producing the "Ride Guide." Let us know if you are interested in joining us!
