LA Ride
Saturday, September 26 - 12:00-5:30pm
LA Ride Detroit Month of Design CycleTour 2020 is an interactive, slow to medium-paced 12 mile loop bike ride, open to the public, where riders visit locations designed by landscape architects throughout the host city. They will hear details about the featured projects from the professionals who actually worked on them. We explore city-scapes, parks, trail systems, sustainable landscapes, school campuses, sports facilities, gardens, urban agricultural sites and historic places, all of which were designed and created by Landscape Architects. Every ride includes “Lecture Sites” and “Mini Stops” where planners, advocates, and technical staff give interactive presentations to the group. CEU’s are also available for each ride. Expect an "afterparty" and the end of the cycle tour. Proceeds from sponsorships and contributions support MiASLA scholarships, mentoring programs, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion projects – opening “On Ramps” to careers, opportunities and the future. Rotary Park
305 City Market Dr., Lansing, MI 48912
Winner of the Merit Award for General Design from MIASLA, and a Design Award for Outstanding Park from mParks
LAP and its sub-consultants Matrix Consulting Engineers and Comprehensive Engineering were retained by Vibrant Communities, and owner, City of Lansing Parks and Recreation to design and construct Rotary Park in 2019 on 2.25 acres of the previous Lansing Adado Riverfront Park. It received a Design and Outstanding Park Award from the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association, as well as, a Design Award from the Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Rotary Park features a new ADA kayak launch, a retained beach, a vibrant plaza with a large fireplace, a magical lighted forest, a new venue for small concerts and events under the Shiawassee Bridge, and a new tiered concrete embankment that steps down to the river. The purpose of this park development is to promote economic development, awareness of the Grand River, and to create a vibrant place in downtown. Early reports indicate that this project has exceeded expectations and has become "A must-see" destination. Rotary Park is meant to be a central gathering place unlike any other. It allows for a "flexible programmable space" that anyone can use for social gatherings, corporate outings, strolling, concerts, and many other innovative uses.
